Celtics – East Van Warriors, 72-56

The Celtics and East Van Warriors had a close match last night with the winner advancing into playoffs tonight. Both teams were hungry for a win and chance to battle 3D in the first round of the 2009 Vancouver Metro League Spring Playoffs. The Warriors had a lean roster of just 5 guys, but they gutted it out in the first half, keeping pace with the Celtics, 27-32. The Warriors controlled the boards, with aggressive rebounding from Michael Martignago and Srdjan Vujovic. Celtic’s Melvyn Mayott (9) was stifled by the Warriors double-team, but Patrick Caffrey (23) nailed spot-up jumpers from the top of the key. The 2nd half continued with hard-earned post points for Srdjan Vujovic, earning 29 on the night. The Celtics turned it on in the 4th Quarter and made the final to push to close out the game and will be facing 3D tonight at Vancouver College.
